What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a rapid and effective way of producing both physical and mental change in the body and mind. It is safe, non-addictive and drug free – and this ‘altered state of consciousness’ is one which we already experience naturally in our daily lives, for example when we daydream or are absorbed in a film or a book.

A Hypnotherapist guides a client to communicate with his/her subconscious in a safe and controlled manner. This involves relaxing and listening to the therapist’s voice.

How does it work?

The mind consists of two parts, the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious part is logical, analytical and reasoning – the part which deals with everyday living. The subconscious part is where all our experiences, feelings and emotions are stored – every moment of every day of our lives. When you are hypnotised, your conscious mind ‘goes to sleep’ and your subconscious mind becomes more alert. In this deeply relaxing and peaceful state your subconscious is receptive to suggestions without resistance from your conscious mind.

What does it feel like?

It is a very pleasant, relaxed and calm feeling. You are aware of what is going on around you and you feel you can arouse yourself at any time.

What can it be used for?

Hypnotherapy can be effective used with a range of problems – emotional, physical, mental and psychological; to enhance and optimise abilities and performance; or simply to experience feelings of deep relaxation and wellbeing.
