Driving Anxiety
HELPING LEARNER DRIVERS
For some people, learning to drive can be a positive pleasure with very little stress involved, taking to it like a duck to water, but for others it can be filled with anxiety, fear and misery.
The reasons for wanting to learn to drive are different for everyone – the skill might be needed for work, or perhaps to take the children to school, to do the shopping etc. Whatever your reason – if you feel panicky or nervous about being behind the wheel, you are far less likely to enjoy the experience.
Many people are filled with dread when their driving lessons come around, fearing failure, being afraid of crashing, being afraid of ridicule from themselves or others etc.
These feelings are certainly understandable – after all you are in control of a potential killer! And many learner drivers don’t feel in control – it often feels as if the car is in control of them.
When people feel stressed or panicky, their heart rate increases, they begin to sweat, they feel uncomfortable, perhaps light headed, concentration and focus begins to suffer and for many people who are learning to drive, these uncomfortable, frightening feelings become associated with driving – making the whole experience feel traumatic and unpleasant.
Then comes the driving test………….and more stress!
It is not unusual for people to completely fall apart at the mere thought of the driving test – after all you are about to be judged on your ability to drive competently, showing safe, well thought out decisions and you know that you have a short time in which to prove yourself. At the end of the test, you will be told that you have either passed or failed.
With so much at stake the stress begins to escalate. The more stressed you feel, the more nervous you will feel and the more nervous or frightened you feel, the less you will feel in control. The less you feel in control, the more likely you are to fail your test.
Thought Field Therapy can help with these feelings….
In a typical TFT treatment session, classical energy meridian points are tapped with the fingers in the precise sequence, essentially known as ‘The Treatment Code’, whilst the individual focuses their thoughts on the distress the problem causes. Most people notice an immediate and dramatic improvement in the way they feel following its application. Further simple procedures then remove the distress completely.
Client Testimonials:
“Sharon, thank you very much for helping me get through my driving test. Your tapping technique really does work. Wished I had come to see you earlier” Love Kim
“Sharon, I can’t thank you enough for the help and support you gave me prior to my driving test. I am thrilled to say I PASSED! I remained calm and confident throughout my lessons and going into the test centre I was actually giggling!”
Helping Traumatised Drivers.
Many situations can leave ordinarily confident drivers feeling traumatised. Being involved in a car accident, as a driver or passenger, is probably the major cause of trauma for most drivers.
Being involved in a car crash can impact on individuals in many different ways. Some people may be so traumatised that they begin to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, being unable to sleep, having nightmares, panic attacks and flashbacks, with a strong aversion to getting into a moving vehicle again. Other people may be left wrestling with feelings of guilt, self doubt, anger, loss etc. and all of the above can impact heavily on confidence levels.
It is not unusual for people who have suffered from an accident to develop a phobia linked to driving.
TFT can help you to reduce these feelings, enabling you to feel in control and wanting to drive again.
Client Testimonial:
“I was involved in a car crash and I couldn’t bring myself to get in the car again, not even as a passenger. I just fell apart at the thought of it and I certainly didn’t feel like I would ever drive again. I had one TFT treatment and felt able to drive again straight away”.
HELPING NERVOUS DRIVERS
Many people manage to pass their driving test but feel very frightened of driving – especially on dual carriageways and motorways, or other busy roads like city centres or unfamiliar routes.
Some people are so afraid that they would rather get public transport than drive on any of these roads to reach their destination, or they drive the long way round, adding extra time to their journey unnecessarily.
TFT can help nervous drivers to eliminate this fear, leaving them feeling confident in their ability to drive on these roads – competently and in control.
Client Testimonials:
“I was terrified of driving on the Coast Road, Spine Roads and Motorways. The thought of it made me break out in a cold sweat. After one TFT treatment, I was able to drive immediately onto the Coast Road and then the motorway with no problems. Now there’s no stopping me!”
“I always avoided driving on roads I didn’t know – especially the City Centre. I felt such a fool because it did not make sense to me. I could drive well on familiar roads but panicked at the thought of going on different roads. After one TFT session I have really surprised myself and my family – I’ve been able to drive right into the City Centre and go to places I hadn’t been before – without fear.”
DOES THE EFFECT LAST?
Most simple problems can be resolved in the course of 1-2 therapy sessions, but follow up and self help are recommended to monitor and maintain progress.
More complex problems are treated on an ‘as needed’ basis as each facet or layer of the overall problem becomes apparent. Whatever the problem, successful TFT treatments have been shown to endure over time.
Following TFT treatment, the individual is asked to record the reappearance of the symptoms. This allows the trigger factor for the recurrence to be identified and eliminated once and for all. This ‘tracking’ procedure contributes to the extraordinary endurance of this therapy.
It is important to note that TFT procedures do not work on everyone or for every problem, however, replicated research has shown that up to 97% of individuals undergoing TFT obtain the resolution they seek.
ABOUT THE PRACTITIONER
My name is Sharon Hales.
I am a Qualified Diagnostic Thought Field Therapist with a 20 year background in specialist counselling, working with all forms of trauma – including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
I qualified as an approved TFT practitioner in 2002. During my training I had the opportunity to address my own driving phobia which I had suffered from for 5 years. I honestly did not expect it to work, as previous counselling and psychology had failed. I thought I would never drive again. After this treatment I immediately wanted to drive to put it to the test. I drove from the centre of Newcastle to Whitley Bay – with no fear, and I continue to drive today with no anxiety at all.
I have witnessed remarkable results from TFT and it is certainly my therapy of choice – for all forms of trauma and distress – as it enables most individuals to feel back in control of their lives very quickly indeed.
Cost: £35 per session – each session lasts 1 hour
